It can be a hard choice working out whether to purchase shutters for your windows in the first place, but when your mind is made up comes the hard part, as there are many different styles and designs.
Probably the first decision on choosing wooden house shutters that you reach will not be one that you have much hand in making, namely, if the shutters should go on the inside or on the outside. This is more determined by the style of window you have and the design of your house as opposed to what you desire!
There are basically two types of window. The first style sits flush with the inside wall of your house, and normally does not have a sill. This means that having inside shutters may look a little strange, and so you would probably end up with outside shutters.
The second style of window, is where it is flush with the outside wall. This means that you will have a sill inside, and that interior shutters are likely to look better.
After that, comes the decision of what wood type to use. As buying shutters is a long term investment, a hardwood is the recommended wood type as they will last longer. Obviously, this is only a brief guide to which shutters to buy, and does not even touch on the many styles available, which other articles will cover.
